Securing Loose Ridge Caps and Refreshing a Weathered Roof

A tiled roof in Manurewa was showing signs of deterioration, with cracked ridge cap pointing and loose caps that were at risk of being dislodged by strong winds. Our team at Cowperthwaite Roof Restorations carried out a full repointing and repair process to secure and protect the roof.
What We Did:
Step 1: Tile Replacement & Moss Treatment
We replaced eight cracked and broken tiles to restore the roof’s integrity. A moss treatment was applied to eliminate growth, which will clean the roof naturally over the next 6 to 12 months.
Step 2: Cleaning & Preparation
To ensure a strong bond for the new mortar, we pressure cleaned the ridge caps and existing mortar work, removing any dirt, debris, and weakened materials.
Step 3: Repointing the Ridges & Hips
Using Selleys Pointworks in Burnt Orange, we carefully repointed all ridge caps and hip tiles, securing them firmly in place and providing a durable, weather-resistant seal.

A fully secured, weatherproof roof with reinforced ridge caps, fresh mortar work, and long-term moss protection.
